Abstract

Neotectonic features to the north of Guandacol (Precordillera of La Rioja) include a variety of fault traces, developed within Quaternary deposits, resulting from the interaction of two morphostructural fronts with opposite vergence. The west-verging crystalline basement blocks of Sierras Pampeanas would have produced NNW-SSE reverse faults with the lower block toward the west, whereas the Precordillera thrust belt would have generated NNE-SSW reverse faults with a downthrow to the east.
