Abstract

This paper is a geological study of an area of 100 km2 approximately, Tts northern border is more or less the 4275 parallel and to the west is limited by the 69 W meridian. The interesting point in this zone is the presence of veins that carry metallic sulphurs (galene, sphalerite and chalcopyrite) with Ag and Au in quartz gangue which in the last years have been the subject of exploration works. The results reached by the author, principally by the study of rocks exposed in natural outcrops, consist mainly in the characterization of nine different formations and the chief tectonic movements that have affected them. The greater part of the paper is given to a demonstration of the relation between the mineral veins and preexisting fractures, and the analysis of the mechanical conditions that may have controlled the formation of the last.
