Significative isostatic uncompensation in the Colorado Basin (Argentine Republic)

Abstract

Isostatic balance on the deepest zone of the Colorado sedimentary basin was analysed using gravity anomalies. Isostatic anomalies (AI) reach + 90 mGal, pointing out: (1) notable overcompensation today and (2) a tendency of the basin of significantly subsiding in the future to recover masses equilibrium. A value for characterising no isostatic compensation was obtained by an inversion model from Bouguer anomalies (ABc) corrected for sedimentary effects. This model was compared with a perfectly compensated stretching model, that was assumed from deep seismic data (antiroot) and from direct faulting (obtained from seismic lines) on the basement supporting the sedimentary filling.
