Abstract

The present paper gives first, a brief review about the geocronological methods based on the radioactive decay, in special those that use the Pb/U ratio. In second place, it gives the results obtained with the chemical and isotopie lead/uranium methods on Argentine minerals, The ages of uraninites ¿rom differents pegmatites of the Sierras Pampeanas, ráabge between Upper Precambrian and Middle Cambrian and these results confirm the Precambrian age of the granitic rocks of this structural unit.
The age obtained with the Pb*"/U*, Pb*/U* and Pb*"/Pb*” ratios on samples irom San Victorio deposit in La Rioja province, are in very good agreement and assigns to this deposit an average age of 3104 15 my. This result confirms De Alba's hypothesis about the age of the Sierra de Famatina granilts. The other ages presented in the paper, obtained by the chemical method, are
only orientatives and need confirmation by means of the isotopic method.
