Abstract

The Quaternary evolution of the western hillside of the Sierra Chica de Córdoba has been conditioned by two types of processes: ones associated with mass movements and others related to the surface stream. The resulting types are conditioned by the erosion as well as the accumulation, and by the lithological behavior of the substratum and of the superficial cover, the presence or absence of vegetation, and by the climatic characteristics. The crystalline basement scarps evolve by slip and rockfall processes, while when a certain continuity of the superficial cover exists with vegetation, evidence of superficial creep appears. On the other hand where Mesozoic rocks without cover alternate with areas of continuous vegetation they evolve mainly to rockfalls. In the foothills deposits prevail the surface stream processes. The precipitations are the main hazard y in the region related to extreme rains.
