The cover photograph illustrates the wave-cut platform along the
Atlantic coast at Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut) during low tide,
together with the adjacent sea cliff exposing the Sarmiento Formation
(Eocene–Miocene) at sunrise. A colony of cormorants is visible atop
the sea cliff. This image was awarded First Prize in the photography
contest organized by the Asociación Geológica Argentina on the
occasion of its 80th anniversary, in the Geological Landscape
category, under the title Farallón. “Farallón” is a well-known regional
tourist site that was declared part of the city’s heritage in 2021,
where an outstanding record of Paleogene mammals is recognized.
