Abstract

A caldera structure associated with the Miocene volcanic event of the Farallón Negro district was identified in the Vis Vis depression, Catamarca province, on the basis of the geological interpretation of high-resolution aeromagnetic data, combined with petrographic studies. Two rock types, andesite and tuff, as well as two events of hydrothermal alteration, propylitic and argillic-sericitic, undergone by these rock types, were defined.
