Abstract

Small auriferous pyriteschalcopyrite veins occur in Triassic volcanic agglomerates and probable Pliocene dacite porphyry intrusions at Mogote Rio Blanco, north of Chilecito, La Rioja, The ore deposits are subvolcanic, mesothermal and genetically related to a dacite volcanic neck. The igneous activity that gave rise to the ores was probably initiated by fracturing of the crust in late Pliocene time, preliminary to regional block faulting.
