Abstract

This note presents the consensus obtained by the Comisión de la Carta del Servicio Geológico Minero Argentino to define the geological boundaries of Patagonia. This was established along the Huincul High, a first order structural feature that separates two sectors of different crustal behaviour. This boundary was established based on numerous geological and geophysical observations, that points out to an important division of the Neuquén Embayment, and that to the west it can be traced across the Andean Cordillera. This boundary extends to the east along the Río Negro valley until off-shore of the continental platform.
